Internationally acclaimed Toronto singer Mustafa Ahmed, whose poetry and songwriting have memorialized young men killed by gun violence, has posted an emotional tribute to his older brother, who was killed earlier this week in the downtown core.
“Tomorrow I bury my only older brother on the day I was born, this dunya is but seconds,” Ahmed posted on his Mustafathepoet Instagram account on Thursday, using an Arabic word that refers to the fleeting nature of life in a series of images expressing his grief. “Mohamed, even in my dreams, you were always leaving.”
