'I’ve lived in the United States with documented status since I was four months old, but I may soon have to leave this country because of our broken immigration system.' OpEd

The school immediatelyto sponsor them for their green cards, but we have yet to receive them. We’ve done everything by the book, but we still have sleepless nights wondering whether our applications to extend our stay, even temporarily, will get approved.
But as I entered high school and my peers started getting summer jobs, I realized that I could not due to my immigration status. Preparing for college applications, I was again reminded that I was different. I was ineligible for most scholarships and savings plans to finance my education. Before my senior year at the University of Iowa, I had to enroll as a foreign student — on the very campus where I grew up.
