Thursday's release of the Mass Casualty Commission report marked the beginning of a new chapter many members of the victims’ families. And they're determined to see the report's recommendations followed through on so no one else suffers the same pain.
Lawyer Jessica Zita said Banfield trusts there will be “meaningful changes from the recommendations,” especially when it comes to intimate partner violence and mass casualties.

Erin Breen, counsel for Avalon, Wellness Within and LEAF, said while the three non-profit organizations look forward to contributing to the implementation of the recommendations, “we all have a part to play in implementing the commission’s recommendations.”Assistant Commissioner Dennis Daley, commanding officer of the Nova Scotia RCMP, acknowledged the police force’s response was inadequate on April 18 and 19, 2020, as noted by the commission in its final report.
“I think it’s important to really understand what the recommendations are and perhaps even go back to the commissioners to have that better understanding of where their mind was at,” Duheme said.
