💬 “I was supposed to have an appointment on 6 December, and that was cancelled” 💬 “In December I was in a really bad way with the seizures. I tried to call an ambulance but they were on strike so I knew I wouldn’t be able to get there”
Ms Thind is advised to visit the clinic every six months to have a transvaginal scan, and is awaiting an appointment to go through her results. “My cancer markers were good, and they have said they didn’t find anything of concern in my womb, but I’m just waiting to be told everything officially,” she said. “They’ve now moved it to March, which I do think is quite bad.
“I do feel for the nurses and doctors, they’re amazing but it hits home when these things are going to be cancelled, and they haven’t said when they will be rescheduled. It’s not like I’m not grateful to the NHS, they’ve helped me so much, and they definitely deserve raise, but on the flip side these things are important”.
“This situation poses a particularly difficult period for healthcare in the UK which has almost collapsed under the burden of itscoupled with Covid,” she said. “The NHS is in dire need of investment to pivot itself into a health system that can support chronic disease at the primary level and more prevention versus the hospital model it currently has.
“Nurses and doctors are exiting the healthcare profession, while the increase in recruits does not seem to be felt by the increasing needs of patients. “Although the population remains unhappy with the disruptions, there is no backlash from a population that can understand why these individuals are striking. However, as more critical professions like nurses and healthcare professionals begin to strike, the impact on these already overburdened services may force the Government’s hand to find ways to meet public sector workers’ demands.”
