Jasmine Carney didn’t panic when she felt something grab her while swimming off Florida’s southeast coast.
Instead, the 10-year-old girl remained calm and kicked what turned out to be a shark before escaping to the shores of Hobe Sound Beach, she recounted to West Palm Beach television station“I fought a shark and won,” Jasmine told WPTV from her hospital bed where she was recovering from the shark bite to her right foot. The attack took place Sunday afternoon.
The bite took off a chunk of Jasmine’s foot, but the girl is expected to make a full recovery in one to two months, doctors told WPTV. “Something grabbed me,” she said. “It looked pretty big and it was gray. It hurt, so I’m like, kick it run away.” Jasmine’s adoptive grandmother said she was amazed by her granddaughter’s composure during the shark attack.
