have created new theft-deterrent software for millions of their vehicles in response to a surge of thefts fueled byThe software update requires the key to be in the ignition to turn the vehicle on, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. It also extends the duration of the car alarm from 30 seconds to one minute.
