Kirk Giles, a 45-year veteran of the Huntsville Police Department, had been the interim police chief since February following the retirement of Mark McMurray. The city is removing interim from his title.

“Chief Giles’ vast knowledge in law enforcement and deep roots in our community have well prepared him for this position,” Battle said in the Nov. 15 announcement. “His experience and steady leadership will ensure our police department is progressive and resilient and will grow even stronger relationships with our partners and community.”

“I am honored to continue to serve and protect our city in this role,” Giles said in the announcement. “I am grateful to Mayor Battle, the administration and our city council for allowing me to lead and work with the exemplary men and women of the Huntsville Police Department.” If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
