APTOS — About 400 volunteers came out to clean up Seacliff State Beach Saturday and say goodbye to the pier, which will soon be demolished after taking extensive damage during the devastating winter storms. Among the hundreds of volunteers scouring the sand for debris between pieces and pillars of driftwood was Rep. Jimmy Panetta.
Congressman Jimmy Panetta was among the hundreds of volunteers picking up debris on Seacliff State Beach Saturday. “It’s insane,” said Disney. “We’ve had way more folks show up than we expected. We have three different rotary clubs here, two different high schools and we’ve got people coming in from Lovers Point. It’s just been a huge turnout.”
“We used to race on the pier and I learned to roller skate here,” said Gonzalez. “It’s definitely sentimental and I have lots of fond memories with my family and friends.”
