Mission: Yozakura Family brings back the vibes of Reborn!

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Warning: Contains spoilers for Mission: Yozakura Family episode #1.Hulu’s new anime, Mission: Yozakura Family, is the latest anime to come out of Weekly Shonen Jump’s current lineup.

Reborn! was one of the bigger stories to come out of Shonen Jump in the 2000s and 2010s, and while they’re very different, Mission: Yozakura Family can be seen as a more modern take on Reborn!’s story and basic concept. Whether that was intentional or not is hard to say, but the comparison does a lot to highlight Mission: Yozakura Family’s strengths, regardless.

Another way in which the two stories are similar is in how both of them didn’t start as action stories. It’s common for shonen manga to start out comedic before becoming more action-oriented, usually in an attempt to gain popularity, and in this case, both Mission: Yozakura Family and Reborn! began as slice-of-life comedies before transitioning into superpowered action stories.
