Matt Mitrione faces Sergei Kharitonov in the main event of tonight's Bellator 225 fight card. Bellator returns to action tonight for Bellator 225. The event, which takes place at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut, is the promotion’s first fight card in more than a month. The headlining bout is a rematch between heavyweight competitors Matt Mitrione and Sergei Kharitonov.
The two met back in February in the main event of Bellator 215. That contest lasted a very brief 15 seconds. The fight ended as a no contest after Mitrione based Kharitinov with an illegal groin kick. The Russian could not continue and the matchup was waved off.“I cannot begin to explain how sorry I am for everybody that paid to come to the fight to watch that fight between Sergei and I,” said Mitrione It would’ve been really dope – it would’ve been a great fight.
According to Ariel Helwani, the 39-year-old was checked and released the night of the event, but returned the next day for further testing.that Kharitinov was given topical and pain medication for his injury.Bellator 225 airs Saturday, August 24 at 9 p.m. ET on Paramount Network from the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut following prelims on the Bellator app and Bellator.com at 5:45 p.m. ET.
