"We spend a lot of time with the employers that we work with to help them set the program up," Forman said."And a lot of time with their managers to help them think about, how do you evaluate someone who's been out of the workforce for five, 10, or 15 years?"While employers have multiple venues where they can look for retired workers, there are some best practices their job listings, and careers pages, should follow.

Other considerations include using photos that showcase a diverse age range of employees, along with highlighting the flexibility and safety of the position. Carlton said— where at least two people are sharing the work of a full-time position as part-time workers — may also be an attractive option for people who want to come out of retirement, but not full time.

And to dispel the idea that raising wages will be enough of a lure, Carlton advises offering ongoing support instead.
