. Again, this feeds into a lack of control. Economic insecurity means workers might feel trapped in jobs or industries which leave them unfulfilled.
It seems like sufferers of “Sunday Scaries” can be split into two camps. First is people who are unhappy in their jobs. “Ask yourself: is this really a fundamental underlying work issue?” says MacRae. “If you’re anxious about bullying, or a really destructive and toxic workplace for example, then that’s something you might need to change.”
Then there is the other camp: people who find themselves feeling anxious, even though they don’t necessarily dislike their jobs. For these workers, there are some things they can do to mitigate their Sunday evening anxieties. .and the Sunday Scaries. “This seems obvious, but it’s probably a big factor for a lot of people,” MacRae says.
Of course, these measures might not work for everyone. For some people, lifestyle changes or extra organisation will merely be a band-aid instead of a lasting solution. If you’ve tried to take steps to alleviate the Sunday Scaries, but still find yourself gripped by them, then it might be time to think about whether something about your job or line of work, specifically, is making you so anxious. And to ask yourself if there are any bigger steps you can take to change that.
