Campbell and Fox starred alongside Scott Wolf as Bailey and Lacey Chabert as Claudia. All the cast’s performances were well-received by critics, but Campbell was singled out for praise for giving a fully convincing turn as an angsty, sensitive teenager. Before she played Sidney Prescott in the Scream franchise, Julia Salinger was the role that defined Campbell’s career and launched her to stardom.
When the series concluded in May 2000, Campbell was 26 years old. Although the role of Julia earned her plenty of fame and acclaim, the now-26-year-old Campbell was worried about being typecast as a teenager. When she was asked about being dubbed “television’s most believable teenager” , Campbell said that the acclaim was “flattering,” but added, “Hopefully, I won’t be a teenager forever.

She was supposed to be 15 years old in the first season and 20 years old in the final season, with each of the show’s six seasons covering one year of her life.
