Here's how old-school manufacturers learned to make ventilators—virtually overnight:

“We are now seeing an increase in the supply of available ventilators being rapidly deployed to those areas with the greatest need,” Dr. Tom Frieden, the former chief of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and now CEO of Resolve to Save Lives, explained by email. But, he noted, gaps remained. By May, if all goes according to plan, these new production efforts could be pushing out thousands of ventilators with production continuing to crank up through June and July.
