Head coach Ryan Day, then Ohio State's quarterbacks coach, discovered him while recruiting Olave's high school teammateAt 6-foot and only 160 pounds then, Olave was an afterthought in Ohio State's 2018 recruiting class. But the Buckeyes saw potential.

"If I can't learn from a Garrett Wilson, a Chris Olave, a Jaxon Smith-Njigba or a Marvin Harrison, I'm an idiot," Brian Hartline said."I'm also trying to learn from them so I can then teach the next generation." In addition to pushing the upperclassmen, Egbuka and Harrison pushed each other.
