Spoilers: CandyOnHulu went out with a “very meta statement.” Now, Jessica Biel and creator Robin Veith are opening up about the show’s “heartbreaking” commentary.
from the eerily playful set design to the timeline-hopping narrative structure. The true-crime series, which explores the events around the death of Betty Gore , opened with its premiere on the day of her killing, before winding back the clock to explore the complex inner lives of both the victim and the killer,.
Let’s talk a little bit more about that set piece, the reenactment of the killing as it may have happened. How did you talk about the feel of it, the blocking of it, the mechanics of it?: The idea really was not to glorify this violence. That was the opposite of what we wanted to do. Obviously, Robin can talk more about how deeply you felt about not glorifying the violence.
I really understood her because I’m working on the same stuff that she’s working on. How to communicate better with my partner, how to tell somebody I’m not okay with this. I don’t want to be perfect all the time. I feel that all the time in a much smaller way. I have more support to work through those feelings than Candy did at that time. She didn’t have those systems. She didn’t have the tools. She didn’t know.
