How Avatar: The Way of Water's ending sets up the third movie
laying the foundations for the epic overarching story about the Sully family following the events of the first movie.with its dramatic climax. But to delve into just how it sets up the third movie, we need to go into some20th Century StudiosAfter the RDA return to Pandora, Jake discovers that among their elite fighting squad is Colonel Miles Quaritch . Quaritch is now a recombinant, a Na'vi avatar embedded with the memories of a human, and he's out for vengeance against Jake.
The Sully family make their way to the home of the Metkayina clan, led by Tonowari and Ronal . Jake invokes"Uturu", a Na'vi tradition that grants any refugee seeking sanctuary safe harbour, and they start to learn the customs and traditions of the water clan.All the while, Quaritch is hunting Jake down across Pandora, burning down reef villages in a quest for information, using Spider as his local translator.
Even if Jake wants to avoid the conflict, he's left with no choice when Quaritch ends up capturing Lo'ak and Tuk, as well as Tonowari and Ronal's daughter Tsireya . For their safe return, Jake agrees to give himself up to Quaritch for a dual to the death.Before that can happen, outcast tulkun Payakan – who had formed a close bond with Lo'ak – attacks the RDA's ship in revenge for the RDA killing its mother.
What they don't know is that Spider rescues Quaritch and takes him to safety, but he chooses not to stay with his father and heads back to reunite with the Sully family. Quite what Spider thinks about Neytiri threatening his life remains to be seen, and could play out in the third movie.Jake tells Tonowari and Ronal that he'll take his family elsewhere to stop the Metkayina being threatened by the RDA.
