As Sirianni pointed out, it’s very hard to cover a receiver who can move around the formation and be productive. Teams will have a hard time defending him with different personnel groups since Brown could line up in the slot or on either side of the formation and make things happen. The Lions found that out the hard way. Add on the fact that teams will have to try to defend fellow receivers Smith and Watkins at the same time, and Philadelphia’s passing offense looks even more dangerous.
Just a year after the Eagles had to flip to running the ball more frequently than they passed it after a 2-5 start, Philadelphia looks poised to pass the ball more in 2022. Yes, the Eagles still have a good, if not great rushing offense with their three-headed backfield. But Brown is a receiver that has just shown he can put the team’s offense on his back when he needs to.
After just one game in his new digs, Brown looks like the icing on the cake to put the Eagles’ offense up into the top tier. He can play anywhere, catch nearly everything, fight for extra yards, and will draw extra defenders in coverage. He’s already got the chemistry with Hurts to produce at a star level in Philadelphia and has a chance to continue bringing out the best in the young quarterback.
If the NFC East wasn’t already on notice about the Eagles and their dynamic offense, they sure are now.
