A Toronto high school student got $4.1 million in scholarship offers. Sixty-two applications, 40 essays and hundreds of hours of painting later, this Grade 12 Etobicoke School of the Arts student scored a record windfall.

“She wants to maximize every opportunity,” said Varey who has been teaching at ESA for the past 19 years, “so anything that comes her way, she’ll say yes to and get involved.”

“One of the values of was that the representatives would work with and fight for our students in terms of admissions, but more importantly, in terms of financial issues,” said Varey. “When it came time to receive scholarships or to ask for additional funding, we’d have these people in our corner.”Maryland Institute College of Art“I have had a lot of time to get to know and understand her practice,” said MICA’s Katie Zazenski.
