Officials said there was no obvious cause of death, but emphasized that visitors should take precautions with the extreme summer temperatures Texas is experiencing. Officials said hikers should be prepared to carry and drink 1 gallon of water per day and plan on being off of the desert trails by at least noon to avoid the day's peak heat. The Chimneys Trail is a moderately-difficult, 5-mile round trip hike to a series of prominent volcanic formations in the western part of the park, the release said.
