The University of Houston and LSU will open the 2027 football season in the Texas Kickoff at NRG Stadium, the schools announced Tuesday.
in 2014 and BYU in 2017, with the latter game played at the Superdome in New Orleans because of Hurricane Harvey. The 2014 game drew a record crowd of 71,599.
The Cougars have played LSU three times, most recently in 2000, a 28-13 Tigers home win. The schools met two other times in Baton Rouge in the late 1990s, with the Tigers winning 35-34 in 1996 and UH winning 20-7 in 1999. “Great regional rivalries, new and old, are part of what makes college football special, and we are thrilled to announce the 2027 matchup between two outstanding college football programs that mean so much to the Houston area in the University of Houston and LSU,” said David Fletcher, general manager of Lone Star Sports & Entertainment.
