As the district's population continues to decline to about 188,000 students at the beginning of this school year, Houston ISD officials are again recommending adding magnets. Making sure there are good schools in every community is necessary for retaining students, Rick Cruz, HISD deputy superintendent, said at a Thursday night meeting.
Dani Hernandez, who represents District III, and Judith Cruz, who represents District VIII, expressed concerns that the proposed magnets were only in middle and high schools.
