In the Create an Opera camp, campers get a true look at the art of creation. First they choose a children’s book to adapt, and then help shape every aspect of the production — libretto, sets, costumes, and everything else. They may play multiple roles, too. Dastoor’s daughter attended last year, when the book was “The Wizard of Oz,” and “loved it.”
“Every time I go to Kinder, I’m blown away by the level of the talent and also by the kinds of questions they’re asking me: about civic awareness and social justice,” Dastoor said. “These kids are really out to change the world, and a lot of the time they find that their art is the way they're going to do that.”
