The House this week will hold a floor vote for the speaker, as Republicans race to lock down support for Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, Minnesota Republican, notified members on Sunday that the speakership vote will be held at noon Tuesday as the party looks to end its turmoil after ousting Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California.

But it’s unclear whether Mr. Jordan, a conservative firebrand and close ally of former President Donald Trump, will have the votes. He can afford to lose only a handful of Republicans. Dozens have indicated they do not support him, underscoring the steep climb Mr. Jordan has ahead of him to secure the required 218 votes.

Republicans nominated Mr. Jordan behind closed doors last week after Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana was forced to withdraw from the running due to a lack of support from conservative hardliners. The House has remained paralyzed without a speaker, with pressure mounting on Republicans to coalesce around a new one after war broke out between Israel and the Hamas terror group that governs the Palestinian-controlled Gaza Strip.
