A person was found dead inside the burning residence on Monday. The Ontario Fire Marshal has deemed the blaze ‘suspicious in nature.’

A house fire in Oshawa Monday where one person was found dead is now a homicide investigation, Durham Regional Police said Tuesday evening.

On March 6 at around 9:50 a.m., Durham police said they responded to a call to assist the Oshawa Fire Department at a house fire on Court Street, in the area of Simcoe Street and Olive Avenue. After fire fighters extinguished the blaze, one person was found dead inside the home. Police said the Ontario Fire Marshal was called in, who deemed the fire “suspicious in nature.”

“A post-mortem examination was completed on and determined the victim suffered trauma to the body, which investigators believe is indicative of a homicide,” police stated.Durham police are asking anyone with information or video footage, including dashcam and home surveillance, to contact the Major Crimes Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5411.
