Some Senate Democrats are also expressing concerns about what the HEROES Act could do for the economy.

House Democrats expected the Senate Republican majority to oppose the $3 trillion HEROES Act. But now some Senate Democrats are also expressing concerns about what this new legislation could do for the economy.

"I'd like to take a look at all that aid we provided and get good economic information on the value for that, from the point of view of our economy but more importantly on fairness to people who are really hurt," Democratic Maryland Senator Ben Cardin said, according toSimilar to the CARES Act, the new legislation would provide $1,200 per person or $2,400 per married couple, as well as aid to state and local governments, and extend $600 per week for the unemployed.

US Senator Ben Cardin, Democrat of Maryland, speaks with reporters after Democrats blocked a unanimous consent request by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, to try and add an additional $250 billion to small business coronavirus relief funds, at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, April 9, 2020. Cardin and other Senate Democrats are joining with Senate GOP leaders in scrutinizing the HEROES Act passed in the House in May.

The HEROES Act was passed 208-199 on May 15, and sent to the Senate, which will be taken up on June 1.
