Construction continues on the Hyatt Hotel and Convention Center at Grand Central Park. Conroe City council members were stunned after reviewing invoices from employees of a construction firm related to the new Hyatt Regency Hotel and Convention Center that showed thousands of dollars in expenses for meals, sunglasses and T-shirts. One invoice tallied more than $2,000 at the Twin Peaks restaurant in Shenandoah.
Among the invoices were: more than $2,000 to Twin Peaks; $530.50 to Taco Veloz; $538.04 to Corkscrew BBQ; $347.34 to Chuy’s; $302.79 to Chick-Fil-A; $852.25 to Sam’s Club; $595.30 for Oakley Sunglasses; and $4,069.60 to Sportex Apparel for T-shirts. “That’s pretty suspicious to me,” she said, asking what happens to the equipment the city is paying for when the project is complete.
Williams cautioned the council from deferring payment on all the invoices since many are related to payroll for the company and equipment rental.
