Toronto has broken the record for highest daily temperature recorded for the third day in a row afterThe agency is expecting temperatures to continue rising to a high of 26 C on Friday, then cooling down in the evening to 12 C.

The UV index is 7 or “high,” according to the weather agency, which means people should be extra careful with their sun exposure and apply sunscreen. At 10:30 a.m. on Friday, the agency issued a special air quality statement, warning that individuals may experience symptoms such as coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Those with cardiovascular or lung disease, especially children and seniors, are at increased risk.

“Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon,” Environment Canada said in the statement, adding, “If you are experiencing symptoms, such as coughing or throat irritation, consider reducing or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities until the special air quality statement is lifted.”

On Saturday, temperatures are forecasted to be more mild at 22 C, although still above the seasonal average of 11.6 C.
