Hospital acquisitions in the United States by another hospital system were associated with slightly worse patient experiences according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Jan. 2. From 2010 to 2015, about 1,260 hospitals were involved in 561 deals, according to the American Hospital Association. In 2016, 90% of U.S. metropolitan areas had hospital markets that could be characterized as highly concentrated based on Federal Trade Commission guidelines, according to a study in Health Affairs.
