🔴 Home Office told to 'get a grip' on issues at Manston processing centre in damning report
Some migrants were “not allowed access to mobile phones to let their families know they were safe” while “in some parts of the site they were, inexplicably, not even allowed to close toilet doors fully”.The watchdog also raised concerns that some detainees, including trafficking victims and people with severe mental health difficulties, “had not been designated as adults at risk” during assessment.
He said: “As a result of these concerns, the Inspectorate is planning a swift return to Manston… the Home Office and its contractors need to get a grip and urgently act on the findings of this report.” A view inside the Manston migrant processing facility where concerning conditions have been revealed in a new report. the department welcomed the findings of “considerable improvements” to the infrastructure and processes in place to accommodate record numbers of migrants arriving by boat.
