National historic site operates Wednesdays to Sundays until the end of September

If you’re interested in doing a day trip this weekend, Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site is now open for the summer season.

Located on the southern-most tip of St. Joseph Island, visitors can learn about the role the fort played in our area, from the early fur trade to the War of 1812. “They can explore the ruins of Fort St. Joseph on a scenic walk, visit the museum, or choose to explore one of the four site trails on foot or by renting a fat bike,” Parks Canada suggests in a news release.

“Additionally, there are daily historic demonstrations, including blacksmithing, baking in a traditional bake oven, and flintlock musket firing.”Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site is open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesdays to Sundays until the end of September.
