A hiker survived a 100-foot fall over a steep ridge during a hike on Oahu in Hawaii on Sunday, officialsThe man was hiking with a group of nine other people in steep terrain on the Koolau Summit Trail in Kaneohe when he stumbled over a cliff, the Honolulu Fire Department said.A witness called 911 just after 9 a.m.
The helicopter delivered the search-and-rescue team to the area where the hiker had fallen. After a short hike, first responders arrived at the scene at 9:43 a.m. They provided basic life support before preparing him to be transported by helicopter to the landing zone. Back at the landing zone by about 10 a.m., emergency medical services took over treatment.
Shayne Enright, a spokesperson for Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, said the man had injuries to his head, back and arm."I know we treated him in serious condition," Enright said.
