“You can see the emotion that was going on when we got behind, I went down to the kickoff return team and you would’ve thought we had the lead they were talking. We were going to go get it,” Victoria West coach Courtney Boyce said.Victoria West started the game with an eight-play drive lasting 2 minutes, 28 seconds and ending with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Repper to D’Andrew Fillmore.
Southwest marched down the field with a 14-play drive consisting of 12 rushes to score a touchdown on its first second-half drive. Brayan Lizama had nine carries on the drive, including the 2-yard touchdown run. Angel Quintero returned an interception 22 yards for a touchdown in the final seconds of the third quarter, but the PAT was blocked, leaving Southwest trailing 14-13.
Quarterback and kicker Tim Olague made a 22-yard field goal with 1:49 remaining in the game, putting the Dragons ahead 16-14. But Carter Nelson returned the ensuing kick off 44 yards to set up Victoria West in scoring position. Then Repper found Sanchez open in the left corner of the end zone for a 14-yard game-winning touchdown.After ending the Dragons' seven-game winning streak and eliminating them from the playoffs, Victoria West stays alive for the area round.
