Things are starting to look very different
Plans for a major development of nearly 500 flats looks set for approvals as councillors meet to decide next week week.
Three retail units are provided, two along Queen Street and one along Manchester Road, accessed and serviced from the street side and service bays provided along Manchester Road and Grimshaw Street. A cafe terrace area located off Manchester Road is intended to enliven the street scene and create social interaction between residents and the local community whilst bringing in an income to the local area.
This continued on for years, shaping the site to a more familiar site as seen on Grimshaw Street today. Currently, the site is used as an open-air car park with parts of it formerly occupied by a range of warehouse buildings for a plumbing company, indoor car boot and pet supplies retailer.
