Here's what that 'gel-like substance' on the Moon (probably) is:
, cropped up online at the end of August, telling tales of Chang’e-4 and Yutu-2. They explain that on July 28, during another round of panoramic photography, someone monitoring the rover spotted a “gel with a mysterious luster” sitting in the centre of the crater. It couldn't be identified from a distance, but whatever it was, it clearly stood out from its surroundings. “The fascinating colors seem to imply its extraordinary life,” the news site went on to explain.
Soon, others caught wind of these reports, and the subsequent media coverage understandably revelled in the idea of a puzzling unguent on the far less understood and observed segment of the lunar surface. The Chinese space agency’s lack of any photographs of this so-called gel-like substance only served to further fuel the enigma.
The asteroidal or cometary shard that created this impact would have been moving at incredible speeds before it came to a staggering halt. It would havewith such extreme force that it would have generated exceedingly high temperatures and pressures at the impact site, melting rock at unfathomable speeds and leaving behind a myriad of molten pools. Exposed to the harsh, frigid environs of space, these would have cooled remarkably quickly, forming a glass.
