A cold front dumped rain that was heavy and fierce at times, leading to some flooding on roadways.

Rainfall totals grew to impressive amounts over the first half of the week, especially in the South Bay that usually sees lower rainfall than other parts of the Bay Area due to the Santa Clara Valley's location on the lee side of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The valley is in an area that meteorologists call a"rain shadow," where the mountains act as a barrier.

"This storm greatly minimized the amount of rain shadowing because the system was energetic, not only aloft but also near the ground," said Rick Canepa, a forecaster with the National Weather Service. Here's a look at some of the precipitation totals from the weather service. All numbers are in inches:
