David Heffel, president of Heffel Gallery and a keen collector and expert on the Canadian art market, says he is delighted to be able to expand the company’s presence in the province where his father was born. Before moving to Vancouver in 1970, Kenneth Heffel had founded a company that became Great West Steel — responsible for putting the crown atop the Calgary Tower — and had amassed a personal collection of Canadian art.
After their father died unexpectedly, brothers David and Robert carried on the family business, which they renamed Heffel Gallery.Article content In 2016, Heffel held an auction of the Imperial Oil collection on the company’s relocation of its offices from downtown Calgary to Quarry Park, resulting in the highest grossing art auction in Canadian history of more than $42 million.Mountain Forms
