HBO is enticing people to stay home during the COVID-19 pandemic by making almost 500 hours of its most popular programming available to stream for free beginning Friday, including every episode of “The Sopranos,” “Veep,” “Succession,” “Six Feet Under,” “The Wire,” “Ballers,” “Barry,” “Silicon Valley” and “True Blood.”
The free, limited-time service is intended to “provide some entertainment relief for those doing their part to keep everyone safe and healthy in this time of social isolation,” the company said in a press release. It should be noted that this free service is also coming about a month head of the planned debut of HBO Max, the upcoming subscription service to compete with the likes of Netflix NFLX, -2.24%, Disney Plus DIS, -3.18%, Amazon’s AMZN, -0.63% Prime Video and Hulu for $14.99 a month.
