Support is growing in one New Jersey community to restrict where residents can have bamboo and other plants. The ordinance is likely to pass this week in the Passaic County town of Hawthorne. NickJCaloway reports.
"They just pop up all over the place," Hawthorne resident Santo Occorso said."They were here when we bought the house, but it wasn't that bad," Occorso said.
"I see the guy here in the morning. He tries to control it, but I think it's out of control," Occorso said."It is a very aggressive type of plant. It does grow fast and it is very difficult to kill," Hawthorne Mayor John Lane said.Lane said he has received plenty of complaints from residents about bamboo creeping onto their properties, even causing damage to fencing.
His neighbor told CBS2 off camera that the bamboo is relatively easy to control. Occorso, however, disagrees.
