The Harvest Moon of September was about 14,046 miles closer to Earth than its average distance of 238,900 miles , according to NASA. It was also the closest supermoon of the year, surpassing the previous one on August 30 by about 2,900 miles . NASA estimated that the Harvest Moon was about 5% bigger and 13% brighter than a typical full moon.

The next supermoon will not happen until September 2024, when another Harvest Moon will grace the sky with its splendor.
