"My readers deal with those things. They notice them before I do," she replied. "I expect that Kylie Jenner heard from some of them along the lines of 'We appreciate the thought, but you kind of missed it.'"
That wasn't quite the case, with people on social media calling her out for being "tone deaf," "problematic," "disheartening" and "highly inappropriate and not cute at all." Show star Bradley Whitford also called it "a little tacky" while appearing on "The Talk."For Atwood, however, Jenner was just another in a long line of people who are just "a little off" in their appreciation of her material.
"There were some themed tequila. People often do this in a very well-meaning way; they're not trying to be unpleasant," she said. "It has been the occasion when I've been speaking somewhere and I will be greeted with Handmaid's Tale cupcakes because the person doing the catering is such a fan. Will I turn up my nose at such cupcakes? No, I will not. I will not do that.
She added that while she's "happy to have people playing in the sandbox" of her work, "sometimes they get a little off, but that is to be expected."
