My family loves fall. We enjoy seeing the leaves change and the weather cool down. We also love Halloween, costumes, and seeing who can gather the most Reese’s peanut butter cups on trick-or-treat night.
My daughter gasped in the back seat and at the same time I realized there was no way to avoid driving by at this point. This display surpasses what should be qualified as Halloween and jumps into the category of terror. When I saw the body bags hanging, my heart turned to the grieving families that I’ve interacted with over the past couple of years. Some people have already lived out this horror in real life, and I would not want them to unknowingly drive down this street and come upon this exhibit.
Studies show that repeated exposure to violence only increases violent behavior through an increase in aggression and a decrease in our emotional and cognitive reactions to violence, and is linked to a diminished empathy for victims of violence.
