At the very untidy desk in my home office. Over the landslide of notebooks, papers and books I can see into the neighbour’s garden. The magnificent old pear tree there keeps me company through the months of writing.When I’m writing non-fiction I have almost no time to read for pleasure. I just consume books that pertain to my current project. Right now that’s my book about the murder of Belle Elmore by Dr Crippen in 1910.
Any woman willing to take on the status quo and give it a good shake up, from Helena Normanton, one of the first female criminal barristers in this country to Kamala Harris. Where heroes and heroines are concerned, I also think it’s important to remember that no one is perfect and we shouldn’t hold people to impossible standards. A hero or a heroine is as flawed as any of us.
