Stuebing said he’s worried that if they don’t support the volunteers with career firefighters, they lose them. He said it’s the only way to build volunteer recruitment and response times. They are training firefighters on highrises and have a dedicated team that provide surge response, Stuebing said, but the volunteers need support and the increasing costs have “become problematic.”
