Cedar LNG would be world's first indigenous owned LNG export terminal
A $3-billion floating liquefied natural gas plant that the Haisla First Nation and Pembina Pipelines plan to build in Kitimat, B.C., got the green light from the provincial government Tuesday.
The Cedar LNG project will be the first LNG plant to be built and owned by a First Nation. The Haisla's industry partner is Pembina Pipelines. By contrast, the larger, neighbouring LNG Canada project would produce 13 MPTA in its first phase, and up to 26 MPTA, if a second phase expansion is approved and sanctioned by the LNG partners.
