Stormy weather in Western Alaska will contribute to gusty winds and snow across Southcentral through Thursday.
Gusty winds and snow sweep through Southcentral todayANCHORAGE, Alaska -
While snow is in the forecast for Southcentral today, not everyone will see it. A big reason for the lack of precipitation will be due to wind. While things are quiet right now, a strengthening area of low pressure near the Northwest Arctic Borough will lead to the development of gusty conditions later Thursday into Friday.
Even Southcentral will see some strong wind speeds, with south-to-southheasterly winds of 30 to 50 mph through the day. The strongest winds look to arrive into the afternoon hours, before tapering off through the day Friday. These winds will primarily be out of the south ringing most of the moisture out over the Kenai Mountains and Chugach Range. As a result, expect the best chance for snow to occur for the Susitna Valley and the gulf coast region.
