GUNTER: Trudeau government's policy for EVs just foolish cdnpoli Trudeau
In Canada, J.D. Power found what they call “EV consideration” – consumers’ willingness to consider buying an EV – has declined 13 percentage points since last year, from 47 percent in 2022 to 34 percent this year.
For carmakers that aren’t receiving billions and billions of tax dollars to subsidize their operations , EV production slowdowns cannot be far behind Ford’s. J.D. Power found the biggest holdup among consumers was “range anxiety” – the fear their EV will run out of power in the middle of nowhere some January night a hundred kilometres from the nearest charging station. In June, EV owners trying to drive across Northern Ontario found all of the handful of charging stations between Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie were out of service. One owner of a new fully electric Ford pickup ended up having to have his truck towed much of the way..That’s ironic.
If you look at the Liberal government’s mandate for EVs, the number of electric cars they project will outpace the rate at which they are funding charging stations. Foolish.Electric cars are heavy, so they wear out roads, streets and driveways faster. They’re more expensive to repair and are written off quicker following accidents, which drives up insurance costs.
