Steven Kwan with MLB's catch of the year thus far?!
Kwan sprinted toward the left field line at full speed and made a diving catch just as he crashed into the seats a-la Derek Jeter diving into the seats against the Red Sox in Yankee stadium in 2004. He emerged from the mass of bodies and tossed the ball back toward the infield, but base runners Carlos Santana and Adam Frazier advanced to third and second on the play.
Kwan crumped to the dirt, clutching his side as trainers and manager Terry Francona rushed to his aid. After several moments, the 24-year-old rookie remained in the game. He led off the sixth inning with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Naylor to give Cleveland a one-run lead. Kwan entered the game with 15 defensive runs saved according to FanGraphs, more than twice that of any left fielder in baseball. His 2.9 defensive WAR, per FanGraphs, far out-paces the next highest left fielder, San Diego’s Jurickson Profar .
