Wave power is the energy source for a groundbreaking water desalination pilot project expected to be deployed in the Municipality of Barrington in 2024., which is based in Quebec, partnered with the Municipality of Barrington to be a test site for their latest desalination buoy, the Glacier, capable of converting up to 500,000 litres of saltwater into fresh water per day.
“We have learned a lot in the last seven years which contributes to designs going forward,” said O’Brien. Before determining a precise location, “we want to make sure we’re taking into consideration all the other factors” including the commercial fishery, said O’Brien. “We’re looking at next summer. That’s when we would like to do it. Wait until after winter conditions are gone and the lobster season is done,” said O’Brien.
