Blackmore told the group it was an issue that kept her awake at night. The relationship between Ottawa and Alberta is tenuous and it could prompt the federal government to pull back on the federal police force’s ability to provide policing services in Alberta and in Grande Prairie.

I know there’s a lot of conversation at different levels and most of, a lot of it is from folks that maybe don’t understand the value of contract policing.Article content When Canada’s Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino pushed for a review of the service’s contract policing in early 2022, it further jeopardized the federal force’s future as municipal, provincial and territorial police services.
Manuel says that leaving it to Mar. 20, could put the process at risk because of the steps needed before the Mar. 31 deadline to notify the RCMP of its intention to move ahead with a municipal police force.Article content
